Thor Bueno

For glass artist Thor Bueno, glass gathers light and color with a purity that no other material can. He insists that all of his works reflect this extraordinary quality: “Touching blown glass is the closest one can get to the elusive experience of holding light.”

Bueno’s broad, flattened vessels provide a canvas on which he displays rich and rough surfaces that resemble the cave paintings of Lascaux, France. He creates each design using many layers of colored-glass powders that are distressed to produce simple, elegant patterns evocative of humankind’s first artworks. The glass is etched with sand to create a glowing matte finish.
