Steven Main

Steven Main had his first contact with glassblowing at Kent State University in the mid-seventies. Always interested in texture and pattern, he had been exploring batik and fabric-dyeing techniques. He took his first glassblowing class on a whim, as an elective, and was instantly hooked. He has been blowing glass ever since.

Steven’s fascination with the intricate patterns of the natural world and his love of color is reflected in his work. Working in a series format that allows ideas to evolve slowly as he explores the way glass of different colors interacts.  Although a specific reference to nature is often intended, Steven enjoys the fact that people form their own interpretations. What is important is to capture the viewer’s imagination.
