Alarcon
Alarcon was born in the city of Piura, Peru in 1975. As a youngster, he became fascinated
with the illustrations found in the books, magazines and poems he discovered in his father's
library. The strange titles and stories he read aroused his imagination and motivated him to
see the world through color and drawing.
At the age of 16, he attended the art school in Trujillo. While there Alarcon made two
great discoveries. First, was the knowledge that no one can teach you to draw. It comes
from the magic within and that anything is possible with pencils and colors. The second
was that his paintings are a way of playing with the memories and experiences that
influenced him as a child.
The enchanted paintings of Van Gogh, Egon Schiele and Klee have had the most influence
on his life and work. You will always find in his paintings a dwarf or an unusual person with
a strange face floating in the sky or inside a wall of dreams. Alarcon always listens to jazz
or blues music while painting. He believes that the magic force of the music and the chaos
of the sounds transforms into color. He strives to create a reality that is believable
without being realistic. Each painting is the outcome of a life experience from within his
own personal universe and memories.
"A painting can't disappoint because it is created through the generosity of the ones that
don't expect anything in return. A painting comes from a time and world that doesn't exist
but has only been revealed to the creator." Alarcon
